"I wish, I was, the necklace"

"'round m' Lady's neck,

"I'd bounce, and turn, and twirl 'round

and playfully peck;

And then, cuddle, up so close,

rocked sleepy by and by,

"And kiss, the two, sweet pillows

there where I lie.

I wish, I was, the bracelet

‘round m' Lady's arm,

"I'd tell , of grace, and beauty

and reflect her charm:

"To be, hallowed, a baton

in the minstrel's hand;

With strings, and song, created

at her command.

I wish, I was, the earring

‘pon m' Lady's ear,

Behind , her hair, I'd whisper

 “Come away my dear"

Wind sweeps, moonlit, on meadows

 "let us dance so near,

Swim close, across, lily-ponds-

"and make dreams come clear...."

But alas! I'm just, an old shoe

'round m' Lady's foot;

"Worn out, kicked  in, forgo'en too

and  dragged  through  much  soot–

No kiss, pillows, no meadows,

'round  my lonely knoll–

"Just dust, a nail, and dead bugs"

stuck to my sole.
